An honest, side-by-side comparison of the Mercedes-Maybach S680 and the Rolls-Royce Ghost as chauffeur cars in Morocco — interior, presence, ride quality, and which to book for which occasion.
Two Cars, Two Philosophies
When a guest of Noor Elite Chauffeur asks for "the best sedan in Morocco," the conversation ends in one of two places: the Mercedes-Maybach S680 or the Rolls-Royce Ghost. Both are extraordinary. Both are flawless on the road from Casablanca to Marrakech. And yet they are profoundly different cars — built on different philosophies, for different guests, for different evenings. This comparison is for the traveller deciding which to reserve.
We have driven both — daily — for the last three years across Moroccan roads, from the boulevards of Casablanca to the kasbah approaches of Skoura. What follows is an honest assessment, written without the gloss of either manufacturer's marketing.
Presence — The Approach to the Hotel
The Rolls-Royce Ghost arrives. The Maybach S680 announces. This is the cleanest single distinction we can offer.
The Ghost's silhouette — its long bonnet, its split headlights, the Spirit of Ecstasy held forward — produces a recognition that does not require a badge. At the porte-cochère of La Mamounia or the Royal Mansour, doormen react instinctively; the car is greeted, not directed. The presence is restrained yet absolute.
The Maybach S680, in its two-tone paint and chromed grille, is the more emphatic arrival. It is the car of the diplomat and the senior executive — the one that signals a delegation rather than a single guest. In Casablanca, where European executive style still dominates, the Maybach is more frequently chosen. In Marrakech, where heritage carries more weight, the Ghost wins by a clear margin.
The Cabin — Where the Hours Are Spent
This is where the two cars genuinely diverge. The Rolls-Royce Ghost rear cabin is an exercise in subtraction: lambswool floor mats, full-grain leather without contrast stitching where the Bespoke desk has been instructed correctly, and the Starlight Headliner that remains the single most-photographed feature in any chauffeur fleet on earth. The materials feel hand-laid because they are.
The Maybach S680 cabin is the opposite — a celebration of every available technology. Reclining executive rear seats with calf rests, four-zone climate, an MBUX rear screen, fragrance diffusion, and a Burmester 4D sound system that genuinely belongs in a concert hall. For a four-hour transfer from Tangier to Marrakech, the Maybach is the more comfortable office. For a forty-minute arrival into the medina, the Ghost is the more memorable cabin.
Ride Quality on Moroccan Roads
Moroccan roads, away from the autoroutes, are not always perfect. The road from Marrakech to Ouarzazate via Tizi n'Tichka, the climb to Ifrane, and the unsealed approaches to several private estates demand a sedan that can absorb without flinching.
The Ghost, on its Planar suspension, glides. There is no other word. Even on the broken sections south of Imlil, the cabin reports almost nothing of what the wheels are doing. The Maybach, with its Magic Body Control camera-fed adaptive damping, is similarly capable but more involved — the suspension actively negotiates each imperfection, where the Rolls simply ignores it. Both cars are exceptional. The Ghost's silence is, in our chauffeurs' unanimous view, slightly superior.
Which One, For Which Evening
We can be specific. Reserve the Ghost for: a formal dinner at the Royal Mansour, a wedding ceremony arrival, a first night in Marrakech, a Cap Spartel sunset, a state visit. Reserve the Maybach for: a multi-stop Casablanca business day, an executive transfer from CMN to the Tour Hassan, a Tangier-to-Marrakech overland run, a long working drive where the rear cabin needs to function as an office.
For Gulf principals — for whom the Maybach has been the official car of choice for three decades — we will recommend the S680 unless the visit is explicitly cultural. For European clients on a first Moroccan trip, the Ghost almost always wins the evening. "À chaque occasion sa voiture" — to each occasion, its car.
Pricing and Practicalities
Day-rate pricing for both cars is closer than it appears. The Maybach S680 with chauffeur, in our fleet, is reserved at a slight discount to the Ghost — not because it is the lesser car, but because the inventory is larger. Both cars include identical service standards: chilled water, Wi-Fi, multilingual chauffeur, fast-track airport meet, and our 24-hour concierge backup.
The Ghost's premium reflects its rarity. There are, at any given time, fewer than ten chauffeur-grade Rolls-Royce Ghosts available in all of Morocco. The Maybach inventory is roughly three times that.
How to Decide
If you are still uncertain, our chauffeur desk will ask three questions: where you are arriving, what your first evening looks like, and who is travelling with you. From those answers, the right car becomes obvious. Reach us on WhatsApp at +212 641 079 937, or via the formal route at contact. Both keys are on the desk; we will hand you the right one.
